house on the waterfront

In a beautiful wetland location in Friesland, we designed a recreational bungalow, situated between a stone house and wooden boathouse. The design takes the strong regional and local characteristics into account. The style fits the surrounding aquatic life perfectly and the materials used are complementary to the two neighbouring buildings.

Passive House

The principles of a passive house have been applied to the design. In winter the house gets full light and warmth from the sun through the high transparent facade on the southeast aspect. In the summer the fixed awning limits too much sunlight and heat. Relatively little additional heating required due to the high degree of insulation. Possible additional heating need is met by under floor heating. The round shape of the roof ensures that the rear aspect (northwest) also receives maximum sunlight.

The design makes offsite production and onsite assembly possible. This method of building increases the build quality, shortens the construction time and reduces the onsite risks during construction. The house is positioned with the ground floor above ground surface level, whereby a closed ground balance may be used. This prevents land removal.
