dike house doubles in size

Change characteristic property

When we were received at the dike house and asked for our opinion regarding the interior, it quickly became apparent that the demands went beyond the available floor space. That was the reason for the call, because our client had started the conversion and was stuck at the program requirements.

Instead of ‘improving’ the dike house too far, our proposal was to position a ’freestanding box’ at the rear, where multiple functions, independent of size, could be accommodated. This way the arrangement of the dike house’s intensive functions, such as living kitchen, bathroom and additional sleeping areas in the building could be re-located.

We separated the new annex from the existing building by a lighted walkway. This allowed each building space to come into its own and sufficient natural daylight into the centre of the living area.
