passive house

A passive house is a very energy thrifty building with a high winter and summer comfort. A passve house is a home that is so well insulated - insulation thicknesses of about 30 cm all round - that a traditional heating system is redundent.

The princile behind a passive house is strongly limiting the energy need through far reaching insluation, a good ventilation system and an airtight building shell.

Heating that is needed comes from the sun or out of the ground. These are alternative, environmentally friendly energy sources, where no active input from fuels (natrual gases or oils) are necessary. Hence the term ‘passive house’.

The total energy use of a passive house is on average 75 percent lower than a traditional new house.
